Add colored-tape system section with white/colored square emojis,
section-header icons for scanning (🐜 stigmergy, 🧹 clean, 📋 organize,
improve, 🛠️ tools, 🩹 first aid), and tighten copy throughout
(cleaning materials labels, wood scraps, wheeled bin, broken-tool
handling). Drop horizontal rule dividers so headings carry the
visual separation.

Workshop

[!important] 0. Read first

  • Notes are the main clues to know how to behave in the space. Reading all signs is the first and most important action when you enter.
  • There is a manager for the workshop — their name will be written on the main board.

🐜 Stigmergy — The Principle of Self-Organization

Stigmergy is the mode of organization used by ants, termites, and Wikipedia. It works through traces left in the environment that guide the next person's action.

Stigmergic rules

  1. Observe the clues (based on the signs, or what you know already)
  2. Take the action you feel like doing
  3. Leave clues to be read by the next person

🧹 1. Clean

  • The workshop is a clean space. Wherever you see dirt, clean it up.
  • At the end of a working day, take 15 minutes to tidy up.
  • In the morning, the workshop should always be clean for whoever enters next.

Where to find cleaning supplies

[!info] 🪧 Sign — Bottom left Cleaning materials

  • Brooms
  • Metal brush
  • Cobweb duster (spiderweb stick)
  • Small brush and shovel

[!info] 🪧 Sign — Bottom right Bins

  • Plastic
  • Paper
  • Metal — to recycle / re-use / upcycle
  • Metal scrap
  • Sawdust
  • Woodchips
  • Wood scraps (large wheeled bin)

[!note] Each bin has a label showing what to do when it is full — read it.

📋 2. Organize

  • The workshop aims for crystal-clear organization.
  • Organization is an iterative process toward perfection. If you have an improvement to propose, make it noticeable — ideally on the workshop space at forum.ariege.io.
  • Mark and write signs on shelves to show where items belong.

3. Improve

  • Make this a beautiful and enjoyable working environment.
  • If something is missing, add it to the wishlist on the blackboard in the workshop.
  • Propose or join current building projects.
  • Repair / upcycle / craft / enjoy.

🛠️ Tools' Rules

🎨 Colored-tape system

Tools are marked with colored tape to show ownership:

  • White tape = collective tool — shared by everyone
  • 🟥 🟦 🟨 🟩 Colored tape = personal tool — each color belongs to a specific person

The current color code (who owns which color) is on the labels in the workshop.

  • If you want to use a personal tool, ask the owner first.
  • If you want to use electric collective tools for the first time, ask the manager first — even if you already know how to use them.
  • Act with better care than if the tools were your own.
  • If a machine or tool breaks, take it out of circulation and tell the manager (and the tool's owner, if it's a personal tool). Don't keep using it or pass it on to be used.

Safety & first aid

[!warning] 🩹 Injury or accident

  • First aid kit is in the workshop (look for the arrow). A QR code on the kit links to emergency contacts.
  • A second first aid kit is in the chateau, to the right.
  • For serious injuries, see ../emergency/medical.

Wishlist

The wishlist lives on the blackboard in the workshop — add items there as you notice them. We keep it out of the docs because it changes constantly; the board is the source of truth.
